QVFD volunteers were up early this morning moving our apparatus into a staging area to make way for the celebration activities for the Town of Queenstowns 300th. Anniversary. QVFD members along with the Ladies Auxiliary were busy cooking up lots of good food to stock the food booth in front of quarters. Festivities included a parade an Artists Village and different programs throughout the day.
The first few months of 2007 have kept the Volunteers of Queenstown busy with runs fundraisers and training. The snow that we did get made area roads the usual mess bringing Rescue 3 out to several collisions. With the new duty night schedule being implemented members are now able to do more drills and training also.
The past few weeks the Volunteers at Queenstown have been using drill time to sharpen their skills in RIT procedures. Members have been training in accessing downed firefighters and being able to rescueretrieve unconscious victims using our RIT bags ropes rigging and the Buddy Breathing features on our SCBA. It has been a real Eye Opener for some which just re-enforces the point of training BEFORE you have to do it for real.
