At 1542 hrs. Grasonville, Queenstown & Kent Island VFD were alerted for a structure fire at 133 Kilby Point Road. Engine 33 responded with 5 volunteers, Engine/Tanker 3 with 2 volunteers & Chief 3 with Officer 301 (Nelson).  Engine 25 arrived on location and Officer 204 (Coursey) advised smoke showing. Engine 33 arrived on location and was advised to complete the lay started by Engine 25. Officer 201 (Anthony) arrived on location with Truck 2 and assumed command. Owners of residence used a garden hose prior to Fire Dept's arrival containing the fire. Command held Station 2's equipment & Engine 33 for smoke removal and overhaul.


 
   
   
QVFD Assists on 3 Alarm Building Fire in Church Hill

On June 27th at approx 0445 hrs. Queen Anne dispatched commerical box 5-1 at the Church Hill Lumber Company located at 562 Main Street. Engine 52 (Church Hill VFD) responded and confirmed heavy smoke & fire conditions.Officer 502 (Jester) arrived on location and assumed command and requested a 2nd alarm, alerting Engine 32 from Queenstown, 3 companies from Kent County Maryland & 1 from Caroline County. Soon after, a 3rd alarm was requested alerting 2 companies from Caroline County, 2 companies from Kent County Delaware, 1 from Kent County Maryland & 1 from Talbot County. Officer 501 (Hurlock) arrived on location and after speaking with Officer 502, took command and Officer 502 assumed operations. Scene was placed under control at 0810 hrs. Church Hill VFD remained on location til 1550 hrs.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating after an arson fire destroys a vacant lumber company on the Eastern Shore.The fire was reported at around 4:45 Saturday morning, and destroyed a two-story 20,500 square foot building that once housed the Church Hill Lumber Company in Queen Anne's County.

The building is located in the 500-block of Main Street in Church Hill.

More than  80 firefighters took 90-minutes to bring the blaze under control; however, roads in the area were closed for much of the day because of the investigation and clean up.

Officials say no one was hurt.

Investigators believe someone set the blaze in the warehouse behind the showroom of the building.

The building is now owned by the Norvus Supply Company of Falls Church, Virginia.

2 Alarm House Fire in 4-9 Box

At 0909 hrs. Queenstown VFD was alerted for a house fire at 211 Coon Box Road in the 4-9 Box. Engine 32 went responding with 4 volunteers, followed by Engine Tanker 3. Paramedic 4 (Goodwill VFD) was first unit on location confirming a worknig fire. Paramedic 4 was told by bystanders of possible entrapment, however was determined no one was inside. Chief 4 (Schelhouse) arrived on location and assumed command. A 2nd alarm was also requested bringing additional companies.Units cleared the scene approx 3 hrs. later.

MVA with Entrapment

At 0545 hrs Queenstown VFD was dispatched for a MVA at intersection of E/B Rt.50 prior to Rt.213. Originally incident was dispatched as a local box. Prior to units arriving on location, call was upgraded to a full rescue box, alerting Rescue 4 from Goodwill VFD. Officer 303 (Russum) arrived on location reporting 1 vehicle overturned in a field. 4 occupants from were out of vehicle upon arrival. Troopers 4 & 6 responded transporting 3 of the 4 occupants. Officer 303 had Rt.50 command.


 
   
   
Building Fire in the 1-15 Box

AT 19:26 hours. Kent Island, Grasonville, Queenstown & United Communites VFD were dispatched for a commercial building fire at the Burger King at the corner of E/B Rt.50 & Kent Towne Market. Chief 1 (Schlotterbeck) arrived on location, confirmed heavy smoke showing and assumed command. Personnel from the various departments made an  attack and extinguished the fire. Crews remained on location for approx. a hour and a half.

Annual Sgt. Randy Morris Memorial Golf Tournament
Each year the friends and family of Maryland State Police Sgt Randy Morris hold a golf tournament in his honor. This year they have chosen the family of Fallen Chief Charles “Buck” Clough Jr from the Sudlersville VFD to be the recipient of the funds raised. Chief Clough lost his life in the line of duty on April 15, 2009 while responding to a call. 

This year’s event will be held at Queenstown Harbor Golf Links on July 13th with a shotgun start at 8:45 AM. The cost to play is $125 per person and includes:
 

  • 18 Holes of Golf at one of the areas best courses

  • Hole-in-One Prize (22ft Center Console Boat)
  • Longest Drive and closest to the pin contests

House fire in 1-12 Box

At approx 1230 hrs Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3 were for a working dwelling fire in the 1-12 Box on Cox Neck Road. Chief 1 (Schlotterbeck) arrived on scene with a large 2 story dwelling with heavy fire showing and assumed command. A 2nd alarm and the tanker task force were requested. Units checked for possible occupants inside the residence, however none were located. Situation was placed under control approx 2 hrs later.

Barn Fire in 4-4 Box

 At approximately 1220 hrs. Station, Station 3 and Station 8 were dispatched for a barn fire on Bloomingdale Road & John Brown Road. Paramedic 200 was the first on location and reported a fully involved building. Officer 405 (D.J. Whitby) arrived on scene and assumed command and requested the 2nd alarm. Equipment made a defensive attack for approx 45 minutes before the situation was placed under control. Units remained on scene for approx 3 hrs.

Tractor Trailer Fire Rt.404 & Rt.50

At 23:55 hrs. Queenstown VFD was alerted for a working tractor trailer fire on Rt.404 & Rt.50. Chief 80 arrived on location with a working fire. Engine 32 responded with 6 members and Engine Tanker 3 with 2 members. Upon arrival Engine 32 pulled 2 attack lines and assisted with extinguishment. Officer 801 had command. Units remained on location for approx 1 hr. 


 
   
   
Fuel spill Rt.50 & Rt.213

At 0757 hrs. Queenstown & Goodwill VFD, along with EM 2 were dispatched for large fuel spill on Rt.50 & Rt.213. Rescue 3 & Engine 33 went responding from Station 3. While enroute Queen Anne advised the spill was approximately 100 gallons. Rescue 3 arrived on scene & Officer 301 (T. Nelson) assumed Rt.50 command. Subject towing an electrical generator struck an object rupturing the fuel tank. It was determined only 25-30 gallons of fuel had leaked. Command held  Rescue 3 & Engine 33 and returned the remainder of the box. Crews contained the spill and stopped the fuel leak. EM2 & Maryland State Police were also on scene.


 
   
   
QVFD participates in 2009 Prom Promise

Station 3 along with Volunteers from throughout Queen Anne's County participated today in Queen Annes County's 2009 "Prom Promise" campaign. On the grounds of Queen Annes County High School, a mock MVA was staged to remind students and the general public about the dangers of drinking and driving. Volunteers from QAC triaged and transported several victims from the "Crash" scene. Two "Victim" was pronounced at the scene. A STAT Med Evac Helicopter also responded and transported one "Victim".This is an annual commitment by the volunteers of QAC to provide a surreal image to the students. Officer 405 (Whitby) had command.
 


 
   
   
LINE OF DUTY DEATH

The Officers and Members of the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department wish to send our deepest condolences and heart felt sympathy to the members of the Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Department and the Clough Family, on the untimely passing of Chief Charles "Buck" Clough. Chief Clough was killed in a traffic accident while responding to a call on April 15, 2009. We ask that everyone who reads this please keep those in the Clough Family and Sudlersville VFD in your thoughts and prayers.
